We have a large lap pool that was empty for several months. After filling the pool, we discovered a serious leak in the underground plumbing. This leak was difficult to locate due to unusual conditions. The water provider (California American Water) allowed us a one-time cost adjustment providing that we solve the problem before a strict deadline. We immediately engaged a specialized leak detection company, a pool builder and a pool service provider to locate and repair the leak. Unfortunately, no one was able to fix the problem. Only after we contacted BLACKTHORNE POOLS & SPAS, and explained the urgency, did we receive effective help! Jonathan Anderson, the Service Supervisor, went to work immediately on the first day. Thereafter, HERBIE BREAUX, the Vice President, took personally charge, was at the pool almost every day, sometimes even twice a day. He effectively solved the problem without tearing up the interlocking stone floor and concrete and within the allotted time frame. Furthermore, he fixed the skimmer, valve actuator, auto fill and bottom drain blockage with minimal additional cost. Looking back, the expertise and service we received from BLACKTHORNE clearly stand out. Their individual attention and dedication to solve their customer’s problems is exceptional. In particular, HERBIE BREAUX’S extensive experience and determined, perseverant nature made him the ultimate winner. For these reasons, we highly recommend this company to anyone who needs repairs and maintenance for a pool or spa.

I've been servicing my own pool for 9 years now and thought I had it down - apparently not. But after talking with Malina Anderson at Blackthorne Pools I was able to get the water testing, advice and products I needed to turn my pool back into the normally lovely clear state that I’m used to. I tried my local pool place but every time I went in I got a different story about what might be happening and what chemicals I could try this trip. Needless to say they were no help. Yes, it was a bit of a drive from Santa Cruz but well worth it. Malina did the water tests and then listened while I told her my sad tale in detail. I have had two hot tubs from Blackthorne, with my first purchased and installed, via crane to an upstairs deck, in 1983. It lasted 30 years and I once again contacted Blackthorne, this time through Malina. We needed to remove our old deck and Hawthorne did this for us. Before we could buy and have the new one installed, we had to have some deck work done. When done, Blackthorne once again arranged for a crane and we lowered the Caldera spa down on our deck. And, they have given us very good, almost instantaneous service and advice throughout. I believe that knowing the people and company from which one purchases a major device like this makes it all the better. Herbie was great. I bought this hot tub off of craigslist and Herbie came out got everything running. He showed me how to do some of the work myself if I wanted to in the future. Still need to purchase a new cover from them. Will hopefully be in there within the next month or so.

I PURCHASED MY POOL LAST SUMMER AND BECAUSE I PURCHASED IT OUT OF A CATALOG I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO MAINTAIN IT, THAT’S WHEN I WENT TO BLACKTHORNE POOLS AND SPAS WHERE I WAS GREETED BY MOLINA. I have an older Hotspring Sovereign spa, originally purchased from Blackthorne about 10 years ago and it had been becoming a bit trouble prone - scale, clogging filters - and finally just stopped working altogether. I just let it sit, unused, for quite a while, having grown tired of constantly trying to get the chemistry right and seeing scale floating around in the water no matter what I did. I finally decided to get it fixed as I missed being able to hop in whenever I wanted to, figuring I would just have to live with being a chemist on the side. Herbie came out to do a final inspection of the cleaning and repair and when I whined to him about the upkeep on the spa, he suggested I check out the freshrain system, which eliminates the need for chemicals completely. I asked him to install one for me and he did so within 24 hours. The water is now perfectly clear and smells fresh 100% of the time. No shock, no testing, no pH adjusting! All I have to do is hose off the filters regularly. I can handle that. Great, personalized service from all at Blackthorne - always!

My experience with Blackthorne Spas started with a very capable salesperson who explained the features of various spas and saunas. She helped me through the purchase process and took care of all the arrangements for delivery. The delivery process was well handled.
